The Multi-Lingual Button Quail
Taking Button on the road? Across the border or across the pond, here's how to tell folks who your little companion is without sounding like a total tourist! (Culled from various sites on the Internet; sorry, I can't help you with pronunciation!)
The Button Quail we commonly keep as a pet is known by many other names! Its scientific name (Latin) can be either coturnix chinensis or excalfactoria chinensis. In English,the Button Quail is also called the "Chinese Painted Quail", the "King Quail", and the "Blue-Breasted Quail". Below are some other translations I have found:

The "true" buttonquails (turnix spp.) are not quails at all, and are not commonly kept as pets (in fact, there may only be two or three in captivity in the United States at this time!), but they also are worthy of mention here:
